Liberty, Victory etc
Re: Liberty,T2,Victory etc
Dat is waar, Pete. Dat waren de Liberty's die volgens de Leen- en Pachtwet aan de Britten werden uitgeleend.

Dit was een ouder bericht over deze Liberty.
Liberty ahoy!
PHASE one of Greece’s Liberty Ship Project appears to be almost within sight as the last of the Liberty ships, the former Arthur M. Huddell, enters the final stage of its cross-Atlantic towage to Piraeus.
The Polish tug Posejdon, which departed Norfolk, Virginia, on December 6 with the renovated wartime vessel in tow, reports that it is just over 500 miles away and is due to arrive in Piraeus next Monday.
Now dubbed Hellas Liberty and re-registered under Greek flag, the vessel is to be restored, using private funds, as a floating museum to commemorate Greece’s maritime history.
The first phase of the project, which was launched in mid-2005, has been budgeted at about $5m and the hope is that the vessel will be placed alongside two famous Greek ships anchored in Faliron, just outside Piraeus.
There visitors can already see the armed cruiser Georgios Averof, the flagship of the Royal Hellenic Navy during most of the first half of the 20th century, and the destroyer Velos, a former US vessel given to Greece in 1959, which sailed for a time in the Greek Navy.
Along with two other ships that are already used as museums in the US, the former Arthur M. Huddell is considered the last survivor of the more than 2,000 mass produced Liberty ships banged out in the US during wartime in as little as four days per unit.
In what was considered a good omen for the project, it commenced its Atlantic crossing exactly 65 years to the day after its launch in 1943.
