Gen. Muir.
Gen. Muir.
Ahoy Willem & Adrie,
Attached is a picture of the Division S crew on the Gen Muir c.1944-45. My Dad was Otto Peterson, SK and a plank holder on the Muir (commissioned it in Portland, Oregon.) He is in the 3rd row up from the bottom, second white hat from the left. I have a photo of the ship in some of his things that I scan and send you are a later date. Dad passed away 12-17-01. He went many places on the Muir during and right after the WW-II. Joe V. Peterson, USCG 65-69.
groetjes ruud

Hoi Ruud,

The name is Dutch. My grandparents came from the old country. They raised their 9 kids on a farm in Iowa and my father graduated from Calvin college in Grand Rapids Michgan. But then, he went astray and married a fiery woman with the last name of Sullivan! Married 55 years now.
What I have are some scans taken from a voyage from India to New York Harbor early 1946. My father was in WWII in India for 2 1/2 years and took this ship home. I'm afraid that there really are no photos of the actual ship, just photos taken from the ship. I would be more than happy to put them on a CD and mail them to you.
I will put a CD together this evening and get in mailed early next week. I've been contacted by several people through the Muir web site and have sent photos to them. It turns out that in one photo, my father took a photo of the man who was writing. Imagine that! My father took a photo of a number of the crew singing Christmas carols for the officers and one of the crewmen in the photo was the one writing me. How excited he was when he wrote back, he asked for my father's phone number so that he could talk with him about the trip. Please, no cost. Glad to do it for the furthering of international relations, heaven knows our country could use some good public relations these days!
groetjes ruud
