Het is inmiddels al weer een pikheetje terug dat ik die film zag, in mijn herinnering vond ik het wel interessant om te zien en dacht dat het wel aardig realistisch werd gepresenteerd.Ik hoor nog wel hoe anderen hem vonden.
Bekeken vanuit de hoek " bekend met zeevarende zaken" weten we allemaal dat er altijd kommentaar is van bemanningsleden op de akties van een ouwe- terecht of onterecht en wat voor een persoon dat ook is- en dat is natuurlijk gegarandeerd in een geval waar het schip wordt overvallen door piraten........dan heeft die ouwe dus "per definitie" de zaak verkeerd ingeschat en al of niet waarschuwingen in de wind gewimpeld.Dit zijn natuurlijk typische zaken waar " de beste stuurlieden met hun schoenen met stalen neuzen heel stevig aan de wal staan"

Wat me in het boek opviel was dat die ouwe het steeds over "Mijn derde stuurman" en "Mijn eerste stuurman" had.
Alsof ze zijn persoonlijk eigendom waren.

Ik kan vanaf hier die ouwe natuurlijk niet onder de pet kijken, maar in het Engels Noord-Amerikaanse spraakgebruik moet je "in deze" dat " my this and my that" niet altijd AL te letterlijk opvatten, want dan krijg je soms een "omgekeerde Louitje van Gaal" als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel!!"Mijn derde stuurman" en "Mijn eerste stuurman" had.

En omdat we in het Nederlands niet over "mijn" stuurman spreken, moet een vertaler dat ook niet zo vertalen. Dat zijn de kleine nuances die een vertaling lekker leesbaar moeten maken. Die moeten maken dat de lezer niet merkt dat het een vertaling is.
Als ik die twee pagina's lees die Jos daar heeft geplaatst, denk ik ook zo hier en daar: nou, nou ...

Ooit een zeeman het woord "zeebonk" horen gebruiken? Gewoon weglaten: Ik heb bij een oude kapitein gevaren ...
Een oude zeebonk op zijn schuit ... De tenen krommen er dusdanig van dat ze dwars door de bordeelsluipers dreigen te prikken.
Dit stukje knerpt ook tussen de tanden ...

Typisch iets voor het topic Taal en zo.verdult! ( met een t of met een d ??)
Als het de vervoeging van een werkwoord zou zijn, dan is het verduld.
Even het KOFSCHIP erbij halen.
Maar helaas bestaat het werkwoord verdullen niet.
Om nog even op de film over de kaping van de Maersk Alabama terug te komen...
Toen die ouwe in Salalah aan boord stapte liep hij netjes in uniform rond, zo hoort het ook in een haven.
Op zee werd er geen uniform gedragen, toch wel een pluspuntje voor de film, want zo gaat het er tegenwoordig in de praktijk aan toe.

Somali pirates on trial in France for fatal hijacking
Seven suspected Somali pirates are due in court in Paris on Tuesday over the hijacking of a French yacht that left the owner dead and his wife facing a hellish kidnapping ordeal.
Christian and Evelyne Colombo had sold everything to make their dream voyage around the world.
But around lunchtime on September 8, 2011, naval authorities received a distress signal from their "Tribal Kat" catamaran.
They had left the port of Aden in Yemen five days earlier and were heading for Oman, a journey that took them through notoriously pirate-infested waters.
A German frigate found the boat several hours later. There were bullet holes in the deck and a pool of blood with a pair of glasses floating in it. No one was onboard.
Two days later, a Spanish warship located the skiff suspected to belong to the pirates. They tried to approach but turned away when the attackers dragged Evelyne Colombo into view, a gun to her head.
The Spanish military prepared a raid and attacked a few hours later, leaving two pirates dead and the remaining seven arrested.
Evelyne Colombo told her rescuers that her husband's body had been dumped into the sea. It was never found.
She had spent a nightmarish 48 hours in the hands of the pirates, kept under a tarpaulin, drenched by waves and in constant fear of death.
- 'War, hunger, hell' -
The trial of the seven men, aged between 25 and 32, is due to run for a fortnight from March 29. They have given their professions as policeman, taxi driver, fisherman or even "coolie" -- a old colonial-era term meaning "porter". They face possible life imprisonment if convicted.
At least one may not face trial, having reportedly developed psychological problems in prison -- a result not just of the isolated detention they currently face, but also of the miserable lives they experienced before.
"War... hunger... for these men to properly judged, the court must understand the hell from which they have come," said one of their lawyers, Martin Reynaud.
He added that this could only explain rather than excuse their actions, and said he was conscious of the ongoing pain experienced by the widow and two daughters left behind by Christian and Evelyne Colombo.
The accused have claimed the two men killed during the assault -- identified as "Shine" and "Abdullahi Yare" -- were the leaders of the operation, according to a police source.
The investigators believe Yare was most likely the killer, but that all members of the gang were motivated by the desire to attack boats and claim ransoms through kidnapping.
The dramatic decline in piracy off the Somali coast means the trial could be the last in Europe for some time.
The European Union's military counter-piracy mission "Atalante" saw zero vessels pirated over the past three years, compared with a peak of 47 in 2010.
International naval patrols, increased security on boats and the jailing of over 1,000 pirates around the world have greatly reduced the threat, although experts warn that illegal fishing off Somalia's coast is again threatening local livelihoods and could push communities back to piracy.
The desire for ransoms means murders have been relatively rare in Somali piracy cases. This would be the first to feature a murder out of four that have come to trial in France.
In 2009, the French skipper of the "Tanit" was killed by friendly fire during a raid to rescue his ship from pirates.

Chemical Tanker Sampatiki Attacked by Pirates off Nigeria; Five Crew Members Kidnapped
Five crew members have been kidnapped from a 6,436 dwt tanker after pirates attacked the vessel offshore Niger Delta, Nigeria on March 26, according to the UK-based security broker agency Asket.
At least eight pirates boarded the chemical tanker MT Sampatiki after midnight and remained onboard the vessel for four hours, after which they departed the ship with hostages.

The 2008-built vessel reported the attack, which occurred some 30 miles off the coast of Bonga, via VHF.
Asket added that there were no injuries reported to the remaining crew members, however, the pirates damaged some of the equipment aboard the tanker.
MT Sampitiki sailed to the port of Lagos after the incident, AIS data shows.
At the time of the incident the Liberia-flagged tanker was on its way from the Nigerian port Harcourt to the port of Luba in Equatorial Guinea.

Container ship CMA CGM Turquoise Attacked off Nigeria
The Ghana-based anti-piracy agency Maritime Trade Information Sharing Centre (MTISC-GOG) has reported that a second pirate attack occurred in the Gulf of Guinea on April 11, the day of the hijacking of the product tanker Puli.
The chartered 4,300 TEU containership CMA CGM Turquoise, under way from Lagos, Nigeria to Douala, Cameroon was boarded in waters about 30 nm off the coast of the Niger Delta. The captain activated the SSAS and the crew retreated to the citadel, but two were captured and kidnapped before they could enter.

World Maritime News and France's Le Marin reported the identity of the vessel as the Turquoise, based on communications with the ship's owner and manager Dioryx Maritime, and with MTISC-GOG and U.K.-based security firm Clearwater.
CMA CGM emphasized that it does not own the Turquoise, and provided the following statement from Dioryx:
"Dioryx Maritime Corporation (Dioryx) confirm that their managed vessel CMA CGM TURQUOISE was attacked by pirates off the coast of Nigeria at position 04 08.01’N 005 23.05’E on April 11 at 19:56 hours UTC. We immediately mobilized our Crisis Response Team (CRT) which continuously tried to re-establish contact with the Master and crew. The CRT was also in constant communication with the vessel’s Flag Administration and all the Maritime Rescue Centres as well as the local state authorities. Simultaneously, a line of communication and cooperation was established with the charterers CMA CGM who rendered their full support and assistance. The families of the crew members were informed and are being kept continuously posted.
On April 12 at 08:35 communication with the Master was re-established. The crew members were counted and all of them were found to be safe except for the Second Officer and the Electrician who were reported as missing. At this stage, their whereabouts is not known and everything is being done, in conjunction with the appropriate authorities, the relative foreign ministries, and specialist advisers, to ascertain where they are. Up until now, there has been nothing to indicate that either of the men has been injured or harmed."
The Nigerian Navy is reportedly searching for the kidnapped crewmembers. As of Wednesday, the Turquoise's track showed her approaching Douala from the south.
MTISC-GOG did not immediately return a request for comment.
