Given that the entrance channel to the Able UK decommissioning shipyard is narrow and tidal-restricted, the last phase of the journey required extensive experience in towing manoeuvres and the use of high powered and versatile tugs. Towing manoeuvres were carefully prepared in close collaboration with Allseas and Shell.

Pioneering Spirit Removes Tyra East Alpha

Allseas’ involvement in the complex Tyra redevelopment project for Total is off to the perfect start with the successful single lift removal of the field’s heaviest topsides. Pioneering Spirit made light work of the 14,000 tonne Tyra East Alpha (TEA) processing topsides, needing just seconds to execute the lift, equivalent to two Eiffel Towers, early morning 2 August.

During the two-week campaign, the world’s largest construction vessel, Pioneering Spirit, will lift some 27,000 tonnes of steel out of the North Sea’s Tyra gas field and deliver the structures to specialist yards in Denmark and the Netherlands, covering some 2000 miles in the process.

“This project involves multiple lifts of diverse structures and different weights, but this is the big one,” says our project Lead Engineer Marco Chiozzi. “It’s a great feeling when you see all that hard work pay off. A quick 300 mile round-trip to Denmark and in a couple of days, we will be back here to do it all again!”

Located 225 km off the coast of Esbjerg, the Tyra facilities have been at the core of Denmark’s energy infrastructure for 30 years. However, the field requires redevelopment due to subsidence of the depleted reservoirs, which has caused the platforms to sink. The complex project combines the removal and modification of old facilities and installation of new facilities.

Allseas’ scope covers engineering, preparation, removal, transportation, load-in to shore and disposal of the Tyra East Alpha (TEA) and Tyra West Alpha (TWA) topsides and jackets, integrated production facilities (IPF), monopile and two flare jacket modules.

his major upgrade will enable the “Brave Tern” to handle all known next-generation offshore wind turbines, including foundations. The illustration shows the height of the new crane, which upon delivery in 2022 will be the highest in the market.

ICE was responsible for completing Class drawings and doing the complete detail design for Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s two Gusto 9000 jack-up vessels, acting as the de facto design office for the builder, Lamprell Energy. ICE has later been entrusted by Fred. Olsen Windcarrier for various modifications of the vessels for various upgrades and adaptations to meet specific customer-related requirements.

The newly announced upgrade is the biggest so far and shows the versatility of these vessels and how they can be adapted to meet market changes.

Jan De Nul signs contract with Dogger Bank Wind Farm

Dogger Bank Wind Farm and Jan De Nul Group announce the signing of the final contract for the transport and installation of the GE Haliade-X offshore wind turbines at Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B, 130 km off the Yorkshire coast, starting in 2023. Turbine delivery and installation at the first two phases of Dogger Bank Wind Farm will be the first assignment for the world’s largest Offshore Jack-Up Installation Vessel owned by Jan De Nul Group, the Voltaire.

jdn 2.jpg (53.81 KiB) 1493 keer bekeken
The 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm, which is being delivered in the North Sea in three 1.2GW phases, is set to be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when complete and is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and Equinor.

When complete, Dogger Bank will generate enough energy to power over 4.5 million homes every year – around 5% of the UK’s electricity needs.

Dogger Bank Wind Farm secured 3.6 GW of offshore wind contracts in the UK Government’s 2019 contracts for difference auctions. Record low prices were awarded for the three projects making up Dogger Bank Wind Farm: Dogger Bank A, Dogger Bank B and Dogger Bank C. Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B are now moving towards final investment decision, expected by the end of 2020. SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction phases of Dogger Bank Wind Farm and Equinor will lead on operations for its lifetime of at least 25 years, creating around 200 jobs in the North East.

Steve Wilson, Dogger Bank Wind Farm’s Project Director at SSE Renewables: “We’re very pleased to have signed the final contract with industry leader Jan De Nul Group to transport and install the turbines for Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B. Jan De Nul has a proven track record of transporting and installing new generation offshore wind turbines at scale and its state-of-the-art Voltaire vessel will be the largest and ultra-clean jack up vessel ever seen in the industry when operational. This contract further demonstrates the industry-leading status of Dogger Bank Wind Farm and the innovative supply chain partners such as Jan De Nul that are delivering the project.”

Halfdan Brustad, Vice President for Dogger Bank at Equinor: “Dogger Bank is a record-breaking project, leading the way in terms of technology and scale. We are so pleased to have secured the Voltaire vessel for this project, not only is it the largest of its kind, but also the first Ultra-Low Emission jack-up vessel, which is truly pioneering. Innovation across all levels of the supply chain has enabled offshore wind projects to grow in size whilst reducing costs, and this has been a large factor in the growing success of offshore wind.”

Philippe Hutse, Director Offshore Division at Jan De Nul Group: “We are delighted to have signed the first contract for our new generation jack-up vessel Voltaire and to work together with industry leaders SSE Renewables and Equinor. When taking the decision to build this exciting vessel we had exactly the type of project in mind like Dogger Bank Wind Farm in terms of scale and characteristics of the offshore sites and the turbines. We are proud to contribute to the worldwide transition to renewable energies by installing the offshore wind turbines at Dogger Bank A and Dogger Bank B in the most efficient and clean manner possible.”

Pioneering Spirit removes Tyra East and West platforms

Pioneering Spirit is closing in on Frederikshavn with the second major Tyra platform topsides after another flawless single-lift. Days after delivering the Tyra East Alpha (TEA) facility to the M.A.R.S recycling yard, our game-changer was back in the Tyra field to pull the 7,800 tonne West Alpha (TWA) topsides out of the water.

“Thanks to the vessel’s unique motion compensated topsides lift system, it is a case of move in, lift and move out,” says Project Manager Pieter Smit.

The two former processing topsides – and lighter modules, removed earlier in the campaign – will be reunited on the quayside at M.A.R.S. After transferring the structures to the cargo barge Iron Lady for load-in to the yard, Pioneering Spirit will head back out to Tyra for a third time to remove two flare jackets.

Earlier this week, Pioneering Spirit made light work of the field’s heaviest structure, the 14,000 tonne TEA processing topsides, needing just seconds to execute the lift, equivalent to two Eiffel Towers.

The vessel’s new 5000-tonne crane is also being deployed on the project for lighter lifts. At the start of the campaign, the aft-mounted crane was used to great effect to remove the 1,000 tonne IPF and 1,400 tonne K modules, freeing up the TEA topsides for single-lift removal.

During the two-week campaign, the world’s largest construction vessel will lift some 27,000 tonnes of steel out of the North Sea’s Tyra gas field and deliver the structures to specialist yards in Denmark and the Netherlands, covering some 2000 miles in the process.

“This project involves multiple lifts of diverse structures and different weights,” says Allseas project Lead Engineer Marco Chiozzi. “It’s a great feeling when you see all that hard work pay off.
